The Friends of Purwell Valley take an interest in open spaces along the River Purwell on the eastern side of Hitchin. From the south and following the river downstream, they include Purwell Ninesprings Nature Reserve, Purwell Meadows, Walsworth Common and Burymead Springs. These sites are open to the public and include a range of important wildlife habitats. Many members take part in monthly conservation tasks between October and March and an annual guided walk.
