The Purwell Valley surrounds the ancient market town of Hitchin.(UK) Beneath it lies one of the largest artesian wells in Europe, from which emerge a 'ring of springs'. The Purwell Valley and its 'ring of springs' are an unsung masterpiece of nature's beauty and function. It is hoped that this blog will introduce some of the characteristics of the area to those who have not been and seen for themselves. THIS BLOG IS BEST READ FROM THE INTRODUCTION -AUG 2010, ONWARDS TO THE LATEST POST.

I am thinking of walking the route with a few of my neighbours, starting at the grove road entrance, and wonder if you could recommend a circular route that ends back in hitchin?
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate the work that you have put into maintaining the walk, this blog has been a very pleasant read!
Hello Jason
ReplyDeleteSorry it's taken so long to reply to this comment only I am new to blogging and it keeps throwing me out when my comments are too long.
I think the best way to answer your question is to post another blog addressing it. In the meantime |I would sugest walking along the riverwalk until you get to Gerry's hole. Turn right and enter the field. you can either go along the railway bank or stay this side of the field. cross the ditch and make your way back to SITA metal recycling. you then have a choice of going back into the reserve and along whence you came or carry on along Cadwell lane to the football field. both routes bring you back to where you started. Pick the right time and you'll slmost certainly meet me along the way!
Happy walking
